Blue Hose run past Rams

Women's hoops prepares for Fun Day this Sunday

The Presbyterian Blue Hose women’s basketball team (2-2) defeated the Columbia International University Rams (1-4) on Wednesday, November 15 with a final score of 95-43.

How it Happened

First Quarter – The Blue Hose started off strong after they scored the first nine-points of the game behind Tilda Sjokvist, Ashley Carrillo, and Bryanna Brady. The Rams took their first two-points with 6:56 left in the first quarter. Presbyterian continued to score six more points to make the score 15-2 before the Rams got another layup. After some back and forth Brady puts up four more points to extend Presbyterian’s lead to 16 at a score of 26-10. Carrillo scored once more to make the score 28-11 before the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter – Aubrie Kierscht hit an early three-pointer to start off the second quarter strong. The Rams answered with two buckets of their own, but the Blue Hose then rallied for seven points behind a three from Sjokvist to make the score 38-17. After the media timeout PC was able to hold CIU to 10 points while they took 17 of their own to end the first half with a score of 52-27.

Third Quarter – Coming out of halftime, the Blue Hose took the first 10 points behind a three-point shot from Sjokvist before the Rams answered with a three of their own to make the score 62-30. PC was able to score six more unanswered points before the media timeout with 4:54 to play in the third quarter. Throughout the rest of the quarter, Presbyterian outscored CIU 13-7 to make the score 81-37

Fourth Quarter - CIU took the first two-points of the final quarter after making two free throws. PC then went on a nine-point run led by four-points from Sonia Sato to make the score 90-41. After a scoreless two minutes Dagne Apsite recorded the last five-points for the Blue Hose to end the game with a score of 95-43.

Notes

·       Recorded team season-highs of rebounds (60), assists (28), points (95).

·       Five players totaled double-figure points.

·       Bryanna Brady had a season high of 18 points.

·       Nuria Cunill led the team with eight rebounds.

·       Ashley Carrillo posted a team-high of seven assists.

·       PC scored 45 points off the bench.
