Levon Kirkland will be the next speaker for the Laurens County Touchdown Club. Its meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 2, at The Ridge recreational center in Laurens - lunch line opens at 11:45 am and there is a fee for lunch.

 L. Levon Kirkland Bio 

Levon Kirkland is a former football star from Clemson University and the National Football League. He currently serves as the leader of the Bridge Builder Excellence Program and #SCTop10N2030 movement for the South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (“HOF”). 

Mr. Kirkland has a great passion to give back to the next generation by educating, encouraging, and empowering excellence in ourselves and others. All this to support them in their academic, character, and career development as he leads our SC students to the Top 10 nationally in college and career readiness by December 31, 2030. Outside of his work with the HOF, Mr. Kirkland works with WSE (Wyatt Sports & Entertainment) to help students, young professionals, and seasoned business leaders to find success in sports, business, and life! 

Mr. Kirkland played linebacker at Clemson University between 1988-1991, and after three All-ACC seasons and a consensus All-American nod in 1991 he was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1992. The 38th overall pick was named to the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team after 11 successful seasons in the league. The Lamar, SC native was inducted into the Clemson University Hall of Fame in 2001, the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008, the South Carolina football Hall of Fame in 2017, and the Clemson Ring of Honor in 2019. He is currently a nominee for the College Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. 

Mr. Kirkland spent the years after retiring from playing football, positively impacting the lives of students and football players as a high school, college, and NFL coach. He also secured his sociology degree, which he used at Clemson University as a minority recruiting coordinator in the admissions office. He has earned his Master of Science in Psychology this past fall from Grand Canyon University. His diverse background and experience along with his love for South Carolina and its youth gives him a great platform to impact the community. 

Touchdown Club Players of the Week will be recognized - the next meeting, final of the regular season, will be Nov. 16 - Clemson vs Carolina - and the All-County Banquet will be Wednesday, Dec. 6.
