LAURENS, SC  (February 8, 2024) – Laurens County Councilman and Laurens County Republican Party Chairman Luke Rankin has announced his candidacy for the South Carolina State House of Representatives, seeking to represent House District 14 in Columbia. The House District encompasses most of Laurens County and parts of Greenwood County.

Rankin highlighted his proven record of conservative leadership and his unwavering commitment to serving the community in his announcement.

“Our community is strong and rooted deeply in faith and conservative ideals,” said Rankin. “We need representation in the State House that shares our values and can deliver results with strong, conservative leadership and a seat at the table. With the support of my family and the guidance of my faith, I am committed to providing our community such leadership, with unwavering integrity and dedication.”

As a County Councilman since 2021, Rankin has championed efforts to support law enforcement, including securing funding to increase salaries for deputies and procure necessary vehicles and equipment for the sheriff’s office. A strong supporter of veterans, Rankin also helped allocate financial resources for a new American Legion post building. And recognizing the challenges of rapid growth in the Upstate, Rankin has consistently advocated for controlled development that preserves Laurens County’s rich heritage while creating opportunities for future generations.

As Chairman of the Laurens County Republican Party, Rankin has led efforts to defend biblical values, protect the sanctity of life of the unborn, unmask the political games during COVID, and reject woke ideology. For his conservative accomplishments, including growing the local Republican Party, Rankin was awarded the 2022 "Young Republican of the Year Award" from the South Carolina Republican Party.

Rankin also announced that he has earned the support and endorsement of many Republican elected officials in Laurens and Greenwood Counties, including Laurens County Council Vice-Chair Jeffrey Carroll and State Representative John McCravey.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Luke Rankin on County Council, as we have protected tax dollars, supported our first responders, and safeguarded property rights,” said Carroll. “Luke Rankin is grounded in his Christian faith and is a strong fiscal conservative. I would be proud to have Luke Rankin represent me in the South Carolina State House.”

McCravey, who serves as moderator for the South Carolina Family Caucus, expressed the need for Rankin’s courage in Columbia.

“Luke Rankin is the kind of man we desperately need in the SC House of Representatives,” said McCravey. “Luke is a man of faith and a man of courage who will stand firm for what is right. I am proud to support Luke Rankin and his campaign for the State House.”

An entrepreneur and insurance broker, Rankin serves on the advisory board of the Upstate Pregnancy Center and is a classically trained singer who regularly performs with his family at churches and community events. Rankin and his fiancée, Hope, are set to be married later this year.
