Clinton in Region 3 - AA, in Region 1 for football

Posted

For at least the next 2 years, it looks like Clinton High will go south and east for its athletics.

The SC High School League today (Jan. 24) gave a first look at regions after realignment. Clinton drops from its traditional AAA spot into AA, based on schools with similar enrollments. Charter Schools have a multipler effect that moves them up or down in classification based on out of attendance area enrollment.

Clinton's region will be Chester, Columbia, Eau Claire, Fairfield Central and Mid-Carolina FOR ALL SPORTS BUT FOOTBALL.

In football, Clinton is in Region 1, AA, with: Blacksburg, Brashier Middle College (football only), Chesnee, Greenville Tech (football only), High Point Academy, Landrum and Liberty.

It looks like the region for Laurens will be Region 1, AAAA, with: Emerald, Fountain Inn, Southside Westside and Wren.

In Class A, Region 1, Thornwell Charter School, in Clinton, will be joined by: Abbeville, Calhoun Falls, Dixie, GREEN Upstate, McCormick, SC School for the Deaf & Blind, Ware Shoals and Whitmire.

Traditional Clinton rivals Union County and Woodruff, Region 3, and Newberry, Region 4, will remain in AAA. Traditional AAA powerhouse Daniel moves to AAAA.

Clinton will be the 4th largest school in the AA designation.

The SCHSL proposed realignment is for 2024-2026.
